Volume 8 in this ongoing Shostakovich series by Bulgarian label Gega New, highlights two of his lesser known symphonies.  Number 3, premiered in 1930, profiles Labour Day and embodies a spirit of new social changes.  By 1969 Shostakovich had much darker feelings.  His 14th Symphony uses words by Federico Garcia Lorca, Guillaume Apollinaire, Wilhelm Kuchelbecker and Rainer Maria Rilke.
