The shakuhachi, or Japanese flute, long considered a religious instrument these days is very much a part of the World Music movement. On this disc, Czech practitioner Vlastislav Matousek goes back to the instruments origins and forward to his own composition, Inside the Circle. How this is conceived is described in his programme notes together with explanations of what each piece represents in the shakuhachi tradition.
