Bulgarian label Gega New continue their fascinating archive of Famous Opera Voices of Bulgaria with soprano Lilyana Bareva (1922 – 2007). She began her career with an aria from Verdi’s La traviata and went on to sing it more than 200 times over a period of 30 years! She looked her parts, which added to her success. Composers not represented here include – Prokofiev, Nicolai and Menotti. Others found their way into her song recitals, which she sang throughout her career – a few are included on this disc.
