In 1636 Marin Mersenne wrote in Harmonie Universele, published in Paris, that the cornetto “is like a ray of sunshine.” Richard Seda uses a curved cornetto, and in two of his selections cornettos with mutes, to produce a very bright, clear sound, that is nothing like a modern trumpet. His liner notes contribute to bringing new rays of sunshine to this little known music.
