Paul Reale – Caldera with Ice Cave – Music for Strings

Born 1943, Paul Reale has a large catalogue of compositions ranging over many musical forms.  In this selection Paul Reale’s creating for a string orchestra, bringing imagination to his writing and giving each work his own style of titles.  Caldera with Ice Cave – Piano Concerto No. 3 –  grew from a love of Berlioz and Strauss with visits to a volcano and underground caves.  Hard to pin down in the works on this disc, there are elements of Bernard Herrmann, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Michael Tippett.  In this company, Paul Reale is an American original!
