Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919 – 1996) once little thought of is now considered to be in the vanguard of Russian composers, alongside Shostakovich and Prokofiev. His six Violin Sonatas begin in 1943 and continue until the last which dates from 1982. They show Weinberg’s developing style, while reflecting the times in which he lived.
