Symphony No. 2 is the absolute outsider of Dvorak’s orchestral works. A review of its premiere in 1888 noted that it “is outstanding both for its great wealth of melody and ingenious handling of masses of orchestral sound.” This recording, on period instruments, presents Dvorak’s original score of 1865.
